Know Your Boobs!

kyb_logoEverything I have been through this past year has to mean something. We have seen more silver linings than I would have ever imagined as we trudged through. This past year was hard, one of the hardest things Jason or I have ever been through. It was heartbreaking, grueling and awful. But we survived it and I’m here now with a purpose.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I am shockingly aware of breast cancer now, no surprise there. But in the past, I would see all the pink and still not tune in like I should have. But I’m here to preach to you just a little.

In a conversation this past summer with Jason, I said to him, “Women just need to know their boobs. They need to do self breast exams every month. So if they find something, they know if it has changed or not.” The more informed you are, the more seriously a doctor will take you.

And that, my friends, is how Know Your Boobs (www.knowyourboobs.com) was formed. Yes, it is another breast cancer website. However the goal and my mission is simple:

Educate, Advocate, Support

It’s still in it’s early stages and will be adding more information and more support links soon. In fact, I encourage you to submit anything that has been helpful to you as a patient, survivor, caregiver, family or friend.

We are not officially a non-profit, because I have no idea where this will go. But I will tell you this… There are families all over than need financial assistance, because treatment for cancer is unbelievably expensive.  And there desperately needs to be more funding for Metastatic Breast Cancer. There are too many women living with and dying from mets (stage IV). And I strongly believe that we need to absolutely pour funding into more research for Metastatic Breast Cancer. Any amount donated on KYB will be used to support families in this community that are dealing with breast cancer. My heart is in this fully and completely and I want to do everything I can to make sure folks are taken care of the way you all took care of me and my family.

Let’s see where this journey takes us shall we?! And women and men – Know Your Boobs! Do your self breast exam, schedule your mammogram, take care of and know your body.
